positive post snipe!

Posted by mikemonts | Posted in family, living better | Posted on 12-08-2008

so all these people i know are doing this thing called positive post tuesday.  its where they pick out a person and write something really positive about them.  i’ve been thinking that it might be a cool addition to my blog so here goes…

emily monts de oca

emily is my wife of two years.  she is a good leader and has been a great influence on me.  she is one of the most passionate people i have ever met about her job and the impact that she has each week on complete strangers.  emily is the programming director at the church we go to, and let me tell you, she is one of the most dedicated employees i have ever encountered, no matter the field of work.  she is more talented than she gives herself credit for.

over the course of our relationship she has helped me grow as a better person and christian.  she has taught herself to cook some dominant dinners.  she has studied how to become a better leader.  she has cried because of some dumb decisions i’ve made and stuck with me through some tough times.  she has added incalculable value to my life.

when i first met emily she was singing in musicals at florida southern college.  last sunday, she sang to lead worship to about 300 people.  she really took it to another level and absolutely blew me away.  i was proud to be playing guitar for her that day.  i’m pretty sure this woman can do anything.  i couldn’t have picked a better mate.

2 years

Posted by mikemonts | Posted in family | Posted on 02-06-2008

today is my 2 year anniversary of being married to my lovely wife. i can’t believe its been 2 year already. i look back on our lives when we first got married and really appreciate where we are now. when we first got started i was finishing up my last year of college, she was beginning her career with the church, and things were very slim. we lived in a tiny 80 year old, 1 bedroom/1bathroom apartment. with a church salary and part-time salary of my own, there were many a week when we wondered how we would purchase groceries.

::fast forward 2 years::

this is a big year for us. we both have steady, wonderful jobs. we just bought and moved into our first house. we have great family, friends, and even a dog. i’m really thankful for how blessed we are and realize that we are very fortunate, although i don’t always acknowledge it. so to all you readers out there, at least those of you who are married, i want to hear about what was going on in your second year of marriage. ok go.

easter bunnies

happy easter first of all.  i apologize about the picture in case it offends anyone.  as morbid as it is i just find it hilarious.  ::moving on:: we just finished up with all of the day’s activities and boy am i tired.  the day started early.  i got up at about 5:30 this morning, for church and took out our dog puma.  emily got up at the butt crack of dawn and took out puma while i laid in bed until about 6.  we got to church at 7 this morning to have band practice again before the first service.  justin was in the kitchen making the whole band breakfast.  pancakes, eggs, bacon…the whole spread.  what a nice worship leader.  the new song we did today went perfectly.  it was pretty much the best song we have ever done, maybe even the best song we will ever do.  the whole band nailed it too.  anyways, there were a ton of people there this morning.  i guess everyone goes to church on easter and christmas.  there were a ton of new faces, hopefully many will return and become part of the usual crowd.  once again timm’s sermon was knocked out of the park.

we spent lunch and the early part of the afternoon with some family.  i love eating with family because it is always a delicious meal that i don’t have to pay for or prepare.  go family.  i guess one day that will be me in that position, so i’m just going to take advantage of it while i can.  no fat camp this week.  i need a week off for the holiday.  sorry but you’ll just have to get over it.  its not like its the best thing on this website…or is it?  i hope not.  that would make me sad.

so to all of you out there, i hope you have a great holiday, weekend, and evening.  i’ll see you tomorrow.

where did emily go? who is this new woman?

Dinner was good last night. My wife has somehow mysteriously turned into an Iron Chef. Hopefully this will be a continuing trend.
